S&D Renovations, Inc. has been selected by REMODELING magazine as a winner of the 2008 Big50 Award. The Big50 awards were presented at a gala dinner at the Remodeling Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. on May 5, 2008. Winning companies are featured in the May issue of REMODELING magazine.
Each year, REMODELING magazine inducts 50 companies from across the nation who have set the standard for professionalism and integrity through smart marketing, exemplary business practices, unique design, and extraordinary impact in their community or the industry at large. Big50 remodelers run successful, often growing, companies of various sizes that have taken the lead in raising industry standards. REMODELING editors, columnists, industry leaders, and the companies themselves make the nominations each year. Following a lengthy evaluation process - which includes interviewing people at the nominated companies, and often interviewing their competitors, suppliers, and subcontractors - REMODELING'S editors select the 50 remodelers who exemplify the very best of the industry that year, and who have something to offer other remodelers in proven practices.
We are honored to have been chosen to receive this award and are thankful to all who have contributed to our success.
This fascinating renovation project began with the encouragement of a friend of the Colaiezzi family - an avid HGTV fan. Wishing to renovate many aspects of their new home, Sharon & Stephen Colaiezzi of Emmaus found humor in their "hideously outdated" bathroom, no doubt a "hot" leftover from the 1970's with its Pepto Bismol colored vanity, wall of mirrors, pale pink sunken Jacuzzi and "modern" pink toilet. Stephen Colaiezzi was able to capture the "beauty" of their humorously outdated bathroom in his HGTV application to win a spot on an episode of "Save My Bath." The Colaiezzis were encouraged to select their own remodeler in the area - and, having had a positive previous experience with S&D Renovations, they gave Steve Dormann a call. S&D Renovations was enthusiastic about tackling the job. After winning the HGTV contest on "Ugliest Bath in the Tri-State Area," the Colaiezzis went through a long process of interviews and meetings until the project was finally approved and film crews arrived. The show producers emphasized that the focus of the project was to "have fun"! And, according to Sharon, it lived up to its hype! The design of the new bath was almost entirely decided by HGTV who aimed to showcase new pieces throughout the room. While Sharon acknowledges the project required an unbelievable amount of work and patience by all who participated, now that the dust has cleared, she has no regrets. She is grateful to all who dedicated so much of their time to complete the project on schedule.
S&D Renovations would like to thank the Colaiezzi family for sharing this exciting project with us. We'd also like to express our continued appreciation to our S&D employees, specifically Andy Bereznak, Rich Mattrazzo, Kirk Pierson and Matt Elison, who worked very long hours to get the job completed on time as well as our subcontractors who donated their time to help out with the show. Specifically, thanks go to Steve Nixon of Abbey Plumbing, Mark Appleby of Appleby Electric, Scott Snyder of Cool Breeze HVAC, and Rocco Perugini of Perugini Tile.

I will always remember where I was on September 11, 2001. We were sitting on my enclosed porch when your wife called to tell you that one of the twin towers was hit. Little did we know at the time how many lives would be lost that day. We continued our discussion, and I knew after that first meeting that S&D was the contractor I wanted to use for the renovation of our sunroom, kitchen and bedroom and addition of our master bath. Your presentation was detailed and straightforward and you made me feel that you understood what we wanted to achieve.
Here we are one year later enjoying our "new home". The finished project exceeded our expectations in every way. The quality of your workmanship is evident. You and your crew did a superb job and were a pleasure to work with. Most important, Steve, you are a man of your word. You delivered what you promised and we are thrilled with the results.
